India\'s Defense Policies in Africa until 2020: Between Continuity and Change

Abstract

This study examines India\'s endeavor to develop defense policies that leverage the opportunities presented by the African continent. This pursuit is bolstered by the American factor, which is increasingly adopting the strategy of containing Chinese influence through a nascent "Indian project." The study elucidates Africa\'s significance within India\'s military strategy, details India\'s efforts to advance its defense interests in Africa, and discusses the United States\' proxy confrontation with China. Among its key findings, the study concludes that India\'s strategy is more coherent than it might initially appear, despite acknowledged shortcomings in the implementation of numerous economic and investment initiatives in African countries.
